Vision
Rooted in 1919, committed to timeless craftsmanship—bringing Kudamalana’s heritage teas to the world.
Mission
Our mission is to preserve and practice the authentic art of orthodox, hand-crafted tea making by honoring over a century of heritage, empowering rural communities of Galle, safeguarding nature, and delivering teas of uncompromising quality and integrity to discerning tea lovers around the world.
Established in 1919, Kudamalana Tea Factory stands as one of Sri Lanka’s oldest and most esteemed tea processing facilities, proudly operating under the registration number MF259. With over a century of rich heritage, Kudamalana continues to play a vital role in shaping the excellence of Sri Lanka’s world-renowned tea industry.
In 2020, the factory underwent a complete modernization, seamlessly blending its historic charm with contemporary technology to uphold the highest standards of quality. Located in the heart of a certified organic low-grown tea region, Kudamalana processes 16,000 to 18,000 kilograms of premium made tea each month, with a full production capacity of 20,000 kilograms.
Our teas are regularly featured at the Colombo Tea Auction, reinforcing our presence in Sri Lanka’s globally celebrated tea export market. Owned and managed by Kudamalana (Pvt) Ltd, the factory operates with a deep commitment to sustainability, organic agriculture, and ethical practices.
As part of our ongoing mission to minimize our environmental footprint, Kudamalana aims to generate 30% of its total energy consumption through renewable energy sources—marking a bold step toward a greener, more responsible future for tea production in Sri Lanka.
At Kudamalana, tea is more than a tradition — it's a legacy that spans generations.
Our journey began in the early 1900s with Mr. Easkin, a visionary Scottish planter who recognized the unique potential of our land for cultivating premium black tea. In 1919, he built the original Kudamalana Tea Factory, setting the stage for over a century of excellence in tea craftsmanship.
Before his passing, Mr. Easkin passed the estate into the trusted hands of Mr. Telikada Palliya Guruge Charles, a dedicated factory officer and close confidant. Under Mr. Charles’ care, Kudamalana’s reputation for quality and consistency flourished. The legacy continued with his son, Mr. Eddy Premasiri, who carried forward the same deep-rooted commitment to producing exceptional tea.
Today, Kudamalana (Pvt) Ltd remains proudly family-run, with the second and third generations of the Charles family guiding the estate into a new era. In 2018, the factory was revitalized with modern infrastructure and a bold vision for sustainability. The estate now follows fully organic agricultural practices and has expanded its cultivation to include coconut, Ceylon cinnamon, and medicinal herbs, all grown in harmony with nature.
